Welcome to Aia Davis's Personal Fundraising Page!

Hi, I am Aia and I am doing this because I am passionate about climbing.

I became interested in climbing when I was in lessons as a child then in high school I was a frequent climber. When I started working at Augustana climbing wall this year I made meaningful connections with my coworkers and kids in lessons I taught. A wall is an important place to me.

Your support would be appreciated to help us expand our wall so we can expand our climbing community and make those meaningful connections.

Help us build a wall...and CLIMB it!

Who Are We?

The Climbing Wall was first built in 2001 by the Augustana Students’ Association, and is now part of Campus Recreation. All kinds of people use the climbing wall; students, community members, and kids make use of it to stay active and have fun through the sport of climbing. Our staff are all students at U of A—Augustana Campus, coming from a variety of backgrounds and programs, but all united in our desire to share our passion for climbing. To aid us in that mission, we plan to expand our centre with a bouldering wall to meet the growing demand for climbing in Camrose. The Augustana Climbing Wall is the only climbing wall in the area, regularly serving members of the campus, the city, and the greater Camrose County.

What Do We Do?

We climb! We offer a variety of programming for all of our users. A regular week includes drop-in climbing sessions, kids climbing lessons, and usually a birthday party or other group!

We top-rope and boulder at our gym. When top roping, climbers are secured from above by rope and will never fall more than a couple of inches. Bouldering is without ropes but is limited to very short heights so that falls are protected by crash mats and spotters. A bouldering wall expansion would make it possible to do both at once!

Our Mission

Our mission is to be committed to providing a fun, safe and supportive environment that facilitates climbing experiences for students, faculty, and staff at Augustana, as well as the general public.

 In order to do this we:

  • ·      provide specially trained staff;
  • ·      create and maintain a fun social environment;
  • ·      provide teaching whenever possible in a manner that will maximize the climber’s learning;
  • ·      share our passion for climbing
  • ·      create and maintain an environment where people feel comfortable to challenge themselves;
  • ·      provide a variety of both climbing and bouldering routes to suit all levels;
  • ·      value diversity

Our Plan

A bouldering wall expansion would extend our wall to more than twice it’s original width, allowing for more than twice as much climbing!  The wall will feature different pitches and overhangs to challenge all skill levels of climbers. Starting with a stick frame structure, the wall will then be sheeted with plywood and coated in gritty paint to give climbers traction on the wall. We’ll make our own climbing holds from epoxy and sand to cut down costs, and lastly lay down crash mats to soften our falls.

Then, it’s climbing time!

On behalf of the Augustana Climbing Wall and our entire Camrose climbing community, thank you for supporting us!
