Projet Afrique focusses on three pillars:  professional development in the areas of education, social sciences and health sciences, leadership and social justice. This will be an opportunity of a lifetime to see the world with new eyes.  As we prepare ourselves to contribute to our society as professionals, we are conscious of the privilege but also of the responsibility of our chosen professions.  We hear stories about the conditions of developing countries, but what a privilege it will be to see the realities of cultural differences with our own eyes.

Team Projet Afrique 2016

We are very much looking forward to experiencing the realities of schools, medical clinics, and orphanages, as we partake in teaching, and working hand in hand with the medical community. Our contribution in these cross - cultural contexts will call on the expansion of our leadership  and critical thinking skills.

Our work in schools will be with students like these shown in the picture below. Classrooms in Togo hold many students, such as this one of 145 students in Lomé.

Reciprocity, solidarity and sustainability are fundamental principles driving this international project. During our time in Togo, we will have the opportunity to support our beliefs in these fundamental principles by participating in the construction of a school in a rural community.

The Alumni of last year's international project building a school in Tanzania.

Although it is challenging to go beyond our comfort zone, we know from the Alumni of CSJ international projects such an experience brings an unprecedented sense of joy in the lives of young adults who witness for themselves the power of experience.

The Alumni of this international project is exemplary in 'walking their talk'. Their commitment to making a difference in the world doesn't end when they come home.  These students, many of whom are now teachers,  choose to impact others locally and internationally. Some are now teaching, others are working in developing countries.  They are proud to live by the motto: 'Think globally, act locally'. They are now preaching what they practised in Africa.

The Alumni who have embarked on this international project came home having lived incredible experiences and were incredibly touched by their journey abroad. The following are statements from alumni who traveled to Tanzania last year for their international project.

- Alex Schoeddert.

"My Tanzania experience was one of a lifetime where I was able to explore so many learning opportunities, such as improving my teaching strategies, hard work in team building, the importance of creating relationships with students and colleagues and so much about a whole new culture. The moment I stepped onto our Tanzanian grounds, I felt at home; everyone is so welcoming and wants you to be a part of their lives. Together as teachers with our students, I feel we built relationships that will last forever and the impacts will never be forgotten." - Ali Grant

We, as participants of 'Projet Afrique' will have earned much more than a degree upon completion of their university program.  We will leave Campus Saint-Jean with a life-transforming experience that will forever influence how we choose to impact the world they live in, professionally and personally.

We are so looking forward to this new and exciting experience!

Our campaign has come to an end and we would just like to say thank you. We raised $9749, which would have been impossible without your support and generosity. Our team is getting increasingly excited to embark on this journey, ready to experience life through a different culture and make a difference in this world, both during and after our trip. We realize that we are very lucky to get the opportunity to travel to Togo and we know that it will be an experience that enriches our lives. Your support throughout this process means so much to us, thank you.

We have raised our goal!--Nous avons augmenté notre cible!

Published on Monday, Mar. 28, 2016 at 06:32 AM (MST)

Our Crowdfunding campaign is winding down.  Only 12 days left!   We are so grateful for your generosity.    At this time, we have decided to dream bigger -   As we are preparing for this life – changing journey, as the date of departure approaches, we are more than ever committed  to creating a culture of peace and nonviolence on this planet.   We realize our world in definitely in need of inspired, empowered active idealists.  We are committed to adding a spark in the lives of children in Togo – maybe by sharing our pedagogical practices with local teachers, or by bringing new health practices to health clinics or by collaborating in building schools that will house children for generations to come.

We therefore ask for your support to reach our new target. We are almost there!  Know that your donation will be a gift that will keep on giving.   Not only will our impact be felt  in Togo; we are also committed to pursue the ideals of Projet Afrique when we set foot on Canadian soil upon our return to Canada May 23. Our   motto:  Think globally, act locally, will continue to challenge us to ‘keep on giving’ as we pursue our professional and personal lives in the future.

Thanks for taking part on this journey! - Merci d'avoir pris part à ce voyage!
